ADL Welcomes Judge’s Ruling in Cobb County Evolution Sticker Case

with one comment

In ADL Welcomes Judge’s Ruling in Cobb County Evolution Sticker Case: “Cobb County School Board’s March 2002 action placing a sticker in high school biology textbooks which reads: ‘This textbook contains material on evolution. Evolution is a theory, not a fact, regarding the origin of living things. This material should be approached with an open mind, studied carefully and critically considered.'”

The sticker is, to quote Justice Thomas, “uncommonly silly,” but I do not think it rises to a violation of the Constitution. First, evolution isn’t about the ORIGIN of living things, but the CHANGE of living things. Second, ALL material force-fed in public schools should be approched with skepticism. The problem here is that public schools will always be stuck in a tug-o-war between competing groups. The only way to solve the problem is to privatize schools.

  1. “The only way to solve the problem is to privatize schools.”Until that happens, people are stuck with three unpleasant choices:1) Accept what is being forcefed on them by the school system and other parents who vote in that school system.2) Fight for what they think is what is right for the school to do, thereby forcing their views on others rather than have others’ views forced on them, or3) Send their kids to a private school, whereby the parent pays for both the private school and the government school.
